Dear Sugarplum Fairy,

Hello everybody, it is another Friday to celebrate and we are well into April ready to welcome May. Ahh May.. May reminds me of flowers and the taste of berries, sunbathed skin, the yellow of lemons, the country breeze.

Eversince I was the little girl Maria, May suggests colours and the likes. And now, the old, big kid Maria continues to love May because May reminds her of the best things.

May reminds me that it is my birthday.
May reminds me of my father; whose love know no boundaries, for he too, turns a year older.
May reminds me of that one evening in ‘05 where i first said hello to Yasin.
May reminds me that it is Yasin’s birthday as well.
May lines us up neatly in a row: 17th my father’s, 18th Yasin’s and 19th mine.

But it is not May just yet.

So April today, I anticipate my favourite month. I am going on a vacation. I am turning 20 and i find the idea of aging gracefully very appealing. However, I am not certain if i am graceful enough to model the idea.

So my birthday and Yasin’s will be celebrated modestly in Bali and Lombok for six nights.

There will be diving, sunbathing, trekking, the cheap everything, the massages, the cultural magnificence, the beautiful Gili Islands of Lombok, the active Mt. Rinjani volcano, the surfers, the topless women…
